Tears for Gabriel

My God, this kind of story shakes me to my very core.

He was just a baby; he was not unlike my own son.

I'm so sorry everyone let you down Gabriel. So sorry. :*-(

These especially horrifying stories seem to come out of Florida more than anywhere else.
It is sad that the most recent picture anyone could find to print is from 2007.

You are right.. they really DO seem to come out of Florida more than anywhere else. An unacceptable claim to fame. :-(

I suppose my husband and I should be grateful that our son was one of the more successful foster care stories. And considering how much the state of Florida failed both my sons for the first nearly 4 years of both their lives, and the effects of which they both have to overcome in different ways, and in different homes, that's not saying a whole lot.

The very unfortunate thing is...well, this is not an unusual story. We have thousands upon thousands of children in foster care..many simply just age out of the system.Never ever getting a family of their own It kills me when I read something like this. This shouldn't happen to anyone-much less a baby. We need more advocates..

I just found your blog and wanted to thank you for sharing your story. My husband and I also went through a failed adoption (although not nearly as difficult as the aftermath of yours). It gives me hope that you were able to open your hearts again to another child. I hope someday we will be able to as well. Many blessings to you and your family.

This story scares the heck out of me, because my kids make threats to kill themselves all the time, and I have to decide whether or not to believe them. It would be impossible to take them to a psychiatric hospital every single time (they often enjoy the excitement and it would actually make them worse!). I feel so sorry for the 19 year old. Can you imagine the guilt?!

Thanks for your comment on my blog. Sounds like our children do have a lot in common (diagnoses in particular). I hope we also have a lot in common as I admire your advocacy and it's something I strive to achieve too.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you through your blog.
